Science Dictionary

Why do you need a Science Dictionary for kids? Just as without knowing the alphabet it is impossible to know the language, so, without fully understanding the words used in the subject of Science, we cannot expect a kid to master the subject.

During the process of learning it is important to emphasise an understanding of the concepts of words. Words like “house”, “apple” are understood by the student. There is no need to memorise them. However, for words like “divisor”, “ascending”, “geometry”, the same clarity in understanding may not exist. This book helps to provide that clarity. It helps to build a firm foundation of the subject. It forms part of the resources needed by teachers, parents and students to put the child on the ladder of competence.

We believe every student has the potential to master a subject and to be good in all subjects, not in just one or two. This Science Dictionary aims to build a solid foundation of the subject for the learner.

It is the duty of teachers and parents to provide the tools, guidance and an environment that enables children to reach their full potential.

If you wish for the child to become an independent learner and excel in science, then this book belongs in your special tool-kit.

Successes

Although I had studied Science for many years at school when I came to this school, I realised I did not even know what the word Science meant. I had never thought how this subject was different from other subjects and how it related to my own life. I had previously been studying this subject only to pass my exams. On buying this Science Dictionary, a whole new world opened up. I could see how Science related to my own everyday life. I realised having clear concepts of the words used in Science made this a real fun subject. I am so interested in Science and wish could study it all day. One day I will make an invention and change the world.

I did my Masters in Commerce. Not in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be able to teach Science. This was because I did not find Science interesting or comprehensible myself at school. The norm seems to be if you are good at a subject at school, study it further at college, otherwise drop those subjects you find hard. I question this norm now. Had I had clear concepts of the basics of Science at school, it would have directly influenced my choice of subjects at college.
